Job Descriptions for Lab

 

Communicator (CE): The communicator has two jobs:

  1.  The CE is the only person who can speak to Mr. Young during the lab. The CE can ask Mr. Young to come and speak to the group as a whole at which time anyone in the group may speak to Mr. Young.
  2. The CE is responsible to acquiring any equipment not already supplied to the group. Since the CE is the one who gets the equipment the CE is also responsible for returning the equipment.

 

Data collector (DC): The job of the data collector is to

  1. See to it that the data are correctly collected. He or she may
    1. do this himself or herself or
    2. They may delegate this task to another member of the group.
  2. The data collector should be sure that all data tables are appropriate for the lab. If the DC needs to speak to Mr. Young about this he or she should do so through the CE.

If there are only three people in your group the GM will take on the duties of the Data Collector.

 

Report coordinator (RC): The report coordinator has three jobs:

  1. It is the task of the report coordinator to delegate the various parts of the lab report to the members of the group. The RC should refer to the rubric for valuable information regarding the lab report and all its parts. In addition,
  2. It is the task of the RC to gather all the parts of the lab on the due date. The RC should be sure that
    1.  All the parts are present
    2. That the pages are in the correct order according to the lab instructions
    3. That all parts of the lab are typed
  3. It is the task of the RC to turn in the lab report. The procedure for turning in a lab report is: the report coordinator will put the lab report into the hand of the teacher.

 

Group Monitor GM): The GM is the one who does the following:

  1. The GM must make sure that everyone in the group stays on task. This means
    1. That within the group there is no discussion about topics not relating to the lab
    2. There is no interaction with other groups without prior permission from Mr. Young or as part of the lab instructions, such as exchanging data for making tables and graphs
  2. It is the responsibility of the GM to be sure the lab table is cleaned up and that all of the stools are back under the lab table. In order to do this the GM should keep an eye on the clock. Clean up should begin in advance of the end of class so that students are not held up.
  3. If there is a task not covered by the CE, the DC, or the RC, that task is the responsibility of the GM.
