Lesson Plan and 3mQ for Pre-AP Physics week 09/19/11

MONDAY: Today we will review for the six weeks test, which is tomorrow! Sorry! This five week six weeks surprised me too. Fortunately, there are only two chapters to cover on this six weeks test. Download the chapter 2 test and the key here. Try retaking the test and check your work using the key. We will get to the lab on Wednesday.

TUESDAY: Take the six weeks test today. If you finish early you can start on the homework. Homework: If you have not already, download the reaction time lab here. Also download the “Job Descriptions for Lab” here. Read over the entire lab! There are many things you can have done when you get to class. In addition, be sure to read the “Quick Lab” on page 62. Lab groups that ask questions answered either in the lab or in the quick lab will not receive full credit. Be able to show evidence that you have worked on numbers 1-6 tomorrow.

WEDNESDAY: After the 3mQ we will divide into our lab groups. The fates will decide who is in each group. Be sure to have your job descriptions with you as your group may not receive full credit if the jobs are not done properly. By the end of class today you should be up to step 6. You will have only today and tomorrow’s class time for this lab. The reports are due on Monday. The test over chapter 3 will be two weeks from today. The FPs are 52, 53, 54, 56, 61, 65, and 69.

THURSDAY: Today you will work on the lab. All of your data should be gathered by the end of class today. The RC’s must show me the list of who is doing what part of the report. Homework: Read Chapter 3 section 1. This should be a review for you. Answer RQ3 1 and 5, and then answer EOCQ3 2-5.

FRIDAY: We will review vectors and scalars today and see how they can be added together. Basically we will be reviewing the Pythagorean Theorem. You will hear familiar and beloved terms such as sin, cosine and tangent. Homework: Read 3-2, take notes and do PP 3A, #1 and 3 and PP 3B, #1 and 3and then PP 3C, you guessed it, #1 and 3. Remember to make lots of mistakes so that you can learn something!

3mQ PAPP 09/19/11

1.      Completely describe speed; completely describe velocity. Which is scalar and which is a vector?

2.      An object is thrown up taking 0.3 s to reach the top of its path; how long will it take to come back down? Explain how you know.

3.      Sketch a p-t and a v-t graph of uniform acceleration away from the origin and another towards the origin.

BONUS: Describe how you know the direction of acceleration.

3mQ PAPP 09/21/11

  1. If a student catches a meter stick after it falls 21 cm what is their reaction time?
  2. Sketch an example of a data table appropriate for this lab.
  3. What is the most important procedure in the reaction time lab?

BONUS: Sketch what a graph for the reaction time lab will look like.

3mQ PAPP 09/22/11

  1. List four examples of a vector and four examples of a scalar.
  2. What conditions must be met in order for one vector to completely cancel another vector?
  3. What conditions must be met in order for it to be impossible for one vector to completely cancel another vector?

BONUS: What arithmetical operations can be done with a vector and a scalar; which arithmetical operation cannot be done with a vector and a scalar?
