EXTRA CREDIT
If you ever need to or if you ever want to
do extra credit here is what you do:
1.
Choose any section of any chapter we have not yet studied.
2.
Read and summarize the chapter section.
A summary of less than 150 words, about three-fourths of a page of
12point font, is not likely to be accepted.
It will most certainly not get a passing grade. If counting words is
important to you, you should know that it is my policy to never count the same
word twice and words of four or fewer letters are not counted at all. If you write a good solid summary you will
not have to worry about the length of the summary.
3.
If there are practice problems or review problems or questions in the
chapter section you have chosen to summarize they must be solved or answered as
part of the Chapter Summary.
4.
For Pre-AP Physics you must answer all of the questions at the end of
the section review.
5.
For Conceptual Physics you must answer the review questions for that section
that are found at the end of the chapter.
6.
For Astronomy you must figure out which ‘end of chapter’ questions
pertain to the chapter section you summarized.
It is OK if you answer outside of that chapter section but it is not OK
to miss any.
7.
All Extra Credit work must be typed. Be aware that Mr. Young keeps all
extra credit assignments and that he has a fairly good memory when it comes to
recognizing an assignment he has seen before.
The
grade you earn on the extra credit is subject to the following conditions:
1.
Extra credit cannot be graded until the work the extra credit is being
done for is done and has earned a grade of 90 or above
2.
In fairness to your classmates who turned their work in one time or who
earned a passing grade to begin with, you will be given 85% of your earned
extra credit grade; this means that the highest possible grade for any extra
credit is 85%.
You
may do as many extra credit works as you like and you may turn them in at any
time. The due date for any extra credit
for a particular six weeks is three days before the end of that particular six
weeks; however, there is not a 100% guarantee that I will have time to grade all of the extra credit assignments that are
turned in. Any extra credit that is
turned in after this time will not be graded for that particular six
weeks. It will not be returned to you.
Since I will always give my best effort and time to
those students who do their work well and on time, it could happen that I will
run out of time to grade any extra credit. Thus, if you must do an extra credit
the earlier you get it turned in the better chance there is that I will have time
to grade it. If you wait until the last
possible second there is a very good chance that I will run out of time and I
will not be able to grade your work. Do
not take this personally! Rather, do not
put yourself in a position where you need to do extra credit and if you do then
do the extra credit as early as possible.
The grade you earn on the extra credit
will replace the grade of the work you need to be raised.
