Please be aware that your child is given the opportunity to keep a current and up to date record of his or her grade.  The formula for calculating this grade is on that record sheet.  If your child keeps this record current you will always know what their grade is in this class, right up until the 6 weeks test!

Supplies for class:  The only supply your child must have for this class is a notebook.  The district provides calculators.  The teacher will provide paper at a cost of $0.50/ten sheets and writing tools at a cost of $0.50/pen or pencil.

Internet Homework: This is coming!  Mr. Young is working very hard to provide your child with this marvelous opportunity!  It will be necessary for your child to have Internet access as soon as possible.  If this cannot be done Mr. Young will provide your child with the appropriate materials in class.

Parents, please be aware that IPC, like any other science class, is a very demanding course.  It is a preparatory science class for biology, chemistry and physics.  Your child will be given a lot of homework and much of it is for the purpose of practicing solving problems and not for a grade.  For many students doing work without the promise of a grade is a difficult concept, but, as you know, it is one that must be understood in order to succeed at the high school level.  Your child must review notes and be able to work and rework problems nearly every night in order to be successful in this course.  I will make every possible effort to help your child.  However, many of my students have found it helpful to form study groups.  You may wish to encourage your child to do this as well and you may want to consider making your house a welcome location for such a group to meet.
