PROCEDURES
FOR SCIENCE CLASS 08-09
I.
Procedure for coming into class
a.
Go to your desk and sit in it.
b.
Check to be sure that you have all required
materials.
c.
Prepare for the 3mQ:
i. Get
out a blank sheet
of paper. Never put two or more 3mQs on the same page! There must be only one
3mQ per page.
ii. Put the proper heading on
the paper before you so anything else.
(See procedure II)
iii. Begin the 3mQ. Do not wait for the teacher to tell you to
begin. By the time the bell rings all
students should be working on the 3mQ.
d.
If
you come to class tardy:
i. Leave your things at your
desk and go get a tardy slip from the attendance office
ii. If you have a note from a
teacher or an administrator bring that note directly to the teacher.
iii. Do your best to figure out
what is going on. Do not bother those
students who are already doing the assigned work. If you need help ask the teacher.
e.
If
you forget to bring any required material to class:
i. See the teacher about
purchasing the item(s) you need.
ii. If the teacher does not have
the item(s) you need be sure to stay after class for a “Notification of
Reflection” paper.
iii. If it is a book that you
need simply ask a student on either die of you to kindly share their book with
you.
II.
Procedure
for heading a paper:
a.
Put
your name and class period at the upper right corner of your paper.
b.
Put
the title, assignment and the date at the upper left corner of your paper.
c.
If
more than one page is needed:
i. Be sure that your name is at
the upper right corner of every page.’
ii. Be sure that the page number
is below your name
iii. Never fasten multiple pages
together in any way.
d.
These
are the only four titles that you will be placing in the upper left cornet of
your paper: 3mQ, Pop Test, ICA, and HW
e.
Write
on only one side of a paper. Never
write anything you want graded on the backside of an assignment paper unless it
is a paper the teacher gives to you.
III.
Procedure
for taking a quiz or a pop test:
a.
Take out a sheet of paper
b.
Before you write anything else on that paper put the
proper heading on the paper.
c.
Keep silent during the pop test or quiz.
d.
When you have finished put your writing tool down,
turn your paper over and remain silent until the teacher calls time for the end
of the pop test or quiz.
e.
If you are still working when time is called put
your writing tool down as soon as the teacher calls time for the end of the
quiz.
f.
Pass your paper to the student in front of you. If you in the front of your row have the
papers from your row ready for the teacher when he arrives at your row.
IV.
Procedure for keeping an orderly notebook:
a.
Every notebook must have a minimum of 10 sheets of
blank loose-leaf paper.
b.
Every notebook must have a minimum of six pockets.
c.
The six pockets of your notebook should be organized
as follows:
i. One
pocket for all of your 3mQs
ii. One
pocket for all of you homework.
iii. One
pocket for all of your in-class work
iv. One
pocket for all of your major tests and labs.
v. One
pocket for all of your pop tests
vi. One
pocket for your seating chart, class rules, class policies, grade record sheet
for the six weeks, your formula sheet, and these procedures.
d.
At the end of a particular six weeks you may wish to
clean out your notebook. However, you must keep those papers that pertain to the
current chapter of study. You must
always have all major tests, six weeks tests, labs and your grade record sheets
for each six weeks; these should not ever be thrown out at the end of the six
weeks.
V.
Procedure
for leaving your desk before the class is dismissed:
a.
Raise
your hand quietly.
b.
Wait
quietly for the teacher to call on you.
c.
When
the teacher calls on you make your request.
d.
Follow
the instructions given to you by the teacher.
VI.
Procedure
for answering a question in writing:
a.
Read
the question carefully and be sure you know what the question is really asking.
b.
Answer
the question in such a way that you can tell what the question was by simply
reading your answer.
VII.
Procedure for turning in a paper:
a.
Turning in 3mQ, PT, ICA, or HW:
i. Pass
the paper to the person in front of you.
i. The
person in the front seat of each row will hand the papers to the teacher when
he gets to your row.
b.
Turning in a major test:
i. Be
sure that you put the test ID on your scantron answer document.
ii. Be
sure your name is on your copy of the test in the space provided for your name.
iii. Be
sure your name is on your scantron answer document in the space provided for
your name.
iv. Be
sure your name is on every page of loose-leaf that you wish to have graded and
returned to you.
v. When
you finish your MT quietly bring your paper to the teacher and place it in the
teacher’s hand.
i. Be
sure that your papers for the MT are stacked so that the test itself is on the
bottom, your written work is on top of the test itself and, if there is one,
the scantron answer document is on top of your written work.
c.
Turning in a lab:
i. Labs
will be turned to the teacher’s hand when he calls for them
ii. The
student responsible for turning the lab into the teacher’s hand is the Report
Coordinator.
d.
Turning in late work:
i. If
the work in turned in the same day that it is due put “late –10%” on the top of
the paper between your name and the name of the assignment.
ii. If
the work is turned in the day after it is due or the next day after that put
“late –30%” on the top of your paper between your name and the name of the
assignment.
iii. Always
place late papers in the hand of the teacher.
e.
Turning in early work:
i. Put
“early +30%” at the top of your paper between your name and the name of the
assignment.
ii. For
work to be counted as early it must be turned in at least one day before it is
due. To determine when an assignment is due consult the weekly syllabus.
iii. Work
turned in on the day it is due but before class is not considered early work.
iv. Always
place early papers in the hand of the teacher.
f.
Turning in work after an absence:
i. Put
‘absent’ at the top of your paper between your name and the name of the
assignment.
ii. Always
place the paper in the hand of the teacher.
g.
Never put late papers or early papers on the teacher’s
desk.
h.
Never give late papers or early papers to a
substitute.
VIII. Procedure
for keeping track of your grade:
a.
Keep a current grade record sheet for each six-week
period.
b.
When the teacher returns a paper to you
i. Put
the date the teacher tells you that the assignment was due in its place on the
GRS.
ii. Note
the name of the assignment and the type of assignment and record this
information on your GRS.
iii. Note
the grade that you earned on the assignment and record that information in its
place on the GRS.
c.
Note the title of the paper and using that
information put the paper in the proper pocket of your notebook
IX.
Procedure for when there is a sub:
a.
If a test is to be given that day you will take the
test as usual. Be sure to follow
procedure VII b.
b.
There will always be a homework assignment assigned
by the sub in addition to the test.
When you have finished the test and turned it in begin the homework
assignment.
c.
If there is not a test take the 3mQ as usual.
d.
After the 3mQ do whatever the teacher gave the sub
for you to do.
e.
After completing and turning in the work assigned to
you begin
working on the homework.
f.
When
there is a sub you must never turn in any other assignment other than the work
that the teacher assigned the sub to give you to do.
g.
Never
give the sub homework, even if it is due on the day the sub is there.
h.
Never
give the sub late work.
i.
Never
give the sub early work.
j.
Make
sure that your behavior is twice as good for a sub as it is with the teacher,
thus the teacher’s response will be twice as good as well. The same is true if your behavior is not
twice as good.
X.
Procedure
for caring for a text book:
a.
If
your class does not have a class set:
i. Be sure that you bring your
book to class every single day.
ii. Be sure that your book is
covered at all times and that the cover is in good condition.
iii. Students with uncovered or poorly covered books will be charged a fine
of $1.00 and they will not be allowed to leave the room until the book is
properly and neatly covered.
iv. Be sure that there are never
any papers in your book other than those put there by the publisher.
v. Students with papers between
the covers of their book will be charges $1.00 per page. If a page is folded the fine will be
$2.00. If the page is folded twice the
fine will be $4.00, and so on.
vi. The teacher will not accept
your book if you have any outstanding fines attached to your lack of proper
care of the book you were issued.
Naturally, this fine will be reported to the school bookkeeper. You will
not be allowed to register for your next year or walk the stage at graduation
until all of your fines are paid in full.
b.
If
your class does have a class set:
i. The textbook you are issued
must be covered at all times.
ii. The textbook you are issued
must be kept at your home until the teacher tells you to bring it back.
iii. The textbook you are issued
must never be brought to school. If you
need a book outside of class time:
1.
Get
a book from the glass cupboards
2.
On
a full sheet of loose-leaf write your name, the date and the number of the book
that you got from the glass cupboard.
3.
Put
this full sheet of loose-leaf paper in the red-bordered manila folder on the
teacher’s desk.
4.
When
you return the book be sure to remove that full sheet of loose-leaf paper from
the red-bordered manila folder.
Remember that you are responsible for the book you signed out as long as
that paper is in the RBMF.
c.
Books
in the class set:
i. Books in the class set must
be covered at all times and the cover must be in good shape.
ii. Books in the class set are
numbered. Be sure that you use only the
numbered book that is assigned to you and that your name is always on the upper
right corner of that book.
iii. The student in the last seat
of your row is responsible for getting the books for their row. They are also the ones responsible for
returning the books to the cupboard.
XI.
Procedure
for giving attention to the teacher:
a.
When
the teacher says “Look up here” three things must happen instantly and
simultaneously:
i. All talking stops.
ii. All hands are emptied of
whatever is in them.
iii. All eyes are on the teacher.
b.
Keep
following these three procedures until your teacher tells you to do otherwise.
XII.
Procedure
for writing a hall pass when called from class:
a.
You
must have the official school issued calendar/date book with the appropriate
information in the appropriate place.
b.
In
addition, you must have a pass that is written on a full un-torn and un-tattered
sheet of loose-leaf paper. Torn and
tattered paper will not be accepted as a hall pass.
c.
The
additional hall pass must have the following information on it
i. Your name.
ii. The date.
iii. The time.
iv. The place of origin (SL 9)
v. The destination.
d.
Once
you have written a pass on an acceptable sheet of loose-leaf with the above
information on it you may bring it to Mr. Young for his signature.
e.
After
Mr. Young signs both your official school issued calendar/date book and the
full un-torn and un-tattered loose leaf paper your pass you may leave the room
and go to the designated location
f.
When
you return to the room you must give the loose-leaf pass to Mr. Young.
g.
The
returned passes must have some indication on it that you actually went where
your pass said you were going.
i. If you go to the office
someone from the office must sign your pass.
ii. If you go to a principal he
or she must sign your pass.
iii. If you go to another teacher
he or she must sign your pass.
iv. If you go to the rest room
you must find a principal and have him or her sign your pass.
h.
If
you do not have any indication that you went where your pass said you were
going you will have to go back and get that information on your pass.
